![]() ![]() Rear sight marked C and barrel band marked U. There is some knackering on the receiver just in front of the bolt (possibly vice marks.) Original military buttplate with trap present. Rear sight is a 1902 model, graduated to 2000 yards. Wood is in overall very fine condition, with the exception of a tiny age crack on the left side above the front of the trigger guard. No stock cartouches noted, but stock does not appear to have been sanded. Mechanically excellent, with a dark bore with strong rifling. We believe that this carbine was originally a Model 1898 rifle that had its metal cut down to carbine length and was then fitted into a Model 1899 carbine stock by the NRA in the 1920’s. The serial number is 200xxx and indicates manufacture in 1899. Condition on this carbine is good, with the majority of the gun a combination of bare metal and grey.
